Three Wishes Demo & Next Fest!
June 20, 2025 at 7:36 AM

I forgot to make a post about this when it actually happened, but I released a Three Wishes demo for Steam Next Fest on June 9th!

I got to watch a few people play the game on Twitch and on Youtube and I made a number of changes already, including small things like typo fixes and big things like changing how the headpatting mechanic fundamentally works.

Overall, people seemed to really like the demo, and everyone who has played it said they will be playing the full game! That makes me super happy.

So, how did Next Fest go? Really well! It was actually super cool to see my game featured in a Steam event like that.

You can see my stats here:

As you can see, I got a pretty nice 200 or so wishlists per day during the Next Fest. Now that the event is over, my daily wishlists are dropping off again but for now seem to be hovering around 20 per day whereas before I was getting 0-2 wishlists per day.

The funny thing is that 2 days before Next Fest began, a tweet of mine blew up regarding Steam failing my game build because the tester couldn't figure out how to proceed past the headpat mechanic. I made a tweet about it and called it a skill issue. (I was pretty upset at the time)

Anyways, it turned out to be a valid issue, because a friend of mine also had the same issue but I missed their feedback because discord obscured it behind an "expand" button I didn't see. So I did end up adding a tutorial popup during that scene if the player lingers a bit too long with zero progress.

So yeah, that whole incident blew up on Twitter and I feel a bit bad about it now, but it is what it is I suppose. So those two first peaks on the daily wishlist chart are from that and not Next Fest.

Definitely a fun time! I'd love to participate in Next Fest again in the future. Biggest lesson learned: Have a demo out way before the Next Fest starts so you have time to test stuff and pass Steams review.
